The technique called sgraffito comes from the Italian word, graffiare- “to scratch”. We’ll build up a thick layer of glaze and then, using a sharp tool, carve away layers to reveal your design. You can trace from one our designs or create your own. This technique is awesome because it typically allows for a more detailed design than painting alone and you can see your work coming to life with each mark.

Pieces will be fired and ready for pick up a week after class.
